Marketing vs. Advertising/ Have you really done marketing?
A lot of what we call marketing is basically advertising. You will often hear: I need a marketer to run the social media accounts, a marketer to do google ads or YouTube ads. An SEO expert, a Graphic designer for the flyers. Yes, all those are marketing efforts but are likely not to be enough for your business.
Our world today is suffering from clutter. There is too much of everything. More products than ever before, more features, more businesses, more industries and so on. Buying a billboard space today will not guarantee you an increase in brand awareness or sales, neither is doing TV ads. Social media ads are getting expensive for a business into that they are not paying for themselves.
Marketing used to be all those but no longer. Advertising is half the journey. We are not suffering from information crisis but transformation crisis. We know what we ought to do but we still don’t do.
Awareness is not the point. Knowing how to enroll people to your products or ideas is the marketing you need.
And yes, there are more marketing efforts beyond advertising. And they revolve around strategy.
